Feeling glum? Get to work! It's a great time for an RFP

Posted by Dan Fisher in Beyond the Bank

Lately, I have been reading and hearing that the financial industry is reeling from a fear of regulatory reform, deteriorating credit quality, slow loan growth, less-than-expected earnings, and a slowing, but still-growing economy. Would you agree that this has been the drone of nightly news?

Are you Photo Album Financial?

Posted by Dan Fisher in Beyond the Bank

Remember the photo album? Before the 21st Century, it was the de facto storage device used to chronicle events of a lifetime. Photos would be arranged in these albums and placed on the shelf in order of events—a child’s birth, vacation travels, a wedding—just waiting for their story to be told. The best pictures would be reserved for a picture frame and placed on the wall.

Community banks can do this too!

Posted by Dan Fisher in Beyond the Bank

More than one of my readers have mentioned that some of my blogs suggest technology possibilities that are beyond their ability or too sophisticated to get done. Exam tide is changing. IT will be key focus

Posted by Dan Fisher in Beyond the Bank

We have not yet fully emerged from the financial fog generated by the meltdown and collapse of the industry, but I can see clarity and improved stability coming. The Dow Jones closed above 11,000 and market volatility has moderated in comparison to the huge swings we have observed in the past eighteen months. Broader profitability numbers are returning to the industry, job losses are leveling, and factories are starting to increase production.

Tech lessons in a sandbag

Posted by Dan Fisher in Beyond the Bank

Last year at this time I was writing about social networking and digital natives while fighting the rising waters of the Red River here in Fargo, N.D. Last month we were once again challenged by the river—bloated by rain and the rapid and unexpected snow melt—and were faced with selecting the appropriate solution that would hold the flood water at bay. Thankfully, we were successful this time. The city, in advance of the flood, experimented with numerous technologies from aqua-dams to machines that produced a continuous sandbag sausage. Ultimately, however, city leaders for the time being decided on traditional and basic solutions. These included clay dikes, flood walls, raising the roads to function as a flood wall, and, yes, the good old sand bag.

Brain banking is just a thought away!

Posted by Dan Fisher in Beyond the Bank

The Voice Response Unit, or VRU, will soon be replaced by the Brain Response Unit, or BRU! Brainfingers, a product of Brain Actuated Technologies, has developed a hands-free computer access application that uses a headband, called a Cyberlink, to detect changes in brainwaves and facial muscle movements. The Cyberlink sends the information to the Brainfingers software installed on a desktop computer via an interface with the software executing the desired commands.
