Several weeks ago we posted the Sageworks 7 list of industries hardest hit by the recession. Not surprisingly they included automobile dealers and furniture retailers.
Here is the positive side of the recessionary coin--the seven industries that have been particularly successful over the last 12 months. Beer, wine, and liquor wholesalers is pretty intuitive, as is the medical business (some things you can't put off), but industrial machinery manufacturers and specialized freight trucking are a bit puzzling. A Sageworks spokesperson suggests one possible explanation for the freight data is that while overall transportation is experiencing hardship, businesses may have redirected shipments from other forms of transportation to freight trucking based on various factors.
The data for this chart was compiled by Sageworks, Inc.,
