“If you have money, we want it. If you want money, we have it.”This was an advertising slogan in the 1960s for the former Minonk State Bank, according to John Gregg of Morton (Ill.) Community Bank. He’s pretty sure his father, then CEO at Minonk, coined it. The May 29 Puzzle of the Week, “Show Us The Money,” asked bankers to unscramble five quotes about money and identify the speaker. We also asked them to send us their favorite quotes about money. In addition to the quote sent by Gregg, here’s some of what we heard: 1. Cheryl Parks, Hyde Park Bank, Chicago, liked this: “The best place for money, is right here in my pocket.” Said by Richard Pryor, playing “Daddy Rich,” in the 1976 film “Car Wash.” 2. Ward Cullum, Deutsche Bank, Tennessee, liked this: “Show me the money!” Said by Tom Cruise in the 1996 film, “Jerry Maguire” 3. Robert M. McGovern, III, Wachovia Bank, liked this: “Money, if you’ll pardon the expression, is like manure. It’s not worth a thing unless it’s spread around, encouraging young things to grow.” Said by Dolly Levi in the Broadway musical, “Hello, Dolly!” Add your own favorites below. Don’t forget to tell us who said it. Set as favorite Bookmark

"Bad loans are like deaf dogs. You can call them but they won't come." I don't know who said it but I read it in a readers comment section in the Wall Street Journal sometime in 1982 or 83. |
