Part 1: Banks, Savings Institutions, and Bank Holding Companies with assets over $3 billion in assets

In our annual rankings of the top-performing big banks, those ranked near the top were banks and thrifts that, for the most part, had already begun a move back to basics. They returned their attention to core banking businesses and building relationship-based business models, according to Vanessa Mambrino of Capital Performance Group, who put together the rankings and analysis. Indeed, a few never strayed from that model. Many of the rest of the 145 institutions in this size category have begun migrating back from the fringes to the core as well, but their results have not yet registered.
