In the last few years, check scanners have become the electronic workhorses of financial institution's operation centers. Yet in hours of processing work, a given unit can be exposed to paper flash, ink residue, dust, and air pollutants. This increases the risk of jamming or problems with image clarity.

 

Recently, KIC Products, Auburn, ME developed Waffletechnology, a new electronic cleaning card designed to clean scanners without dismantling the equipment. The user simply tears open the pouch, removes the moistened cleaning card, and inserts it into the scanner as if it were a standard check. The card travels the check path, passing the optical lens and magnetic head, removing unwanted debris, much the way a tapehead cleaner picks up debris from a tapedeck.
