The Federal Reserve Bank of St. Louis developed an application that allows iPad and iPhone users to access the extensive collection of economic data in FRED (Federal Reserve Economic Data), the bank’s signature economic database. The new FRED app is available at http://research.stlouisfed.org/fred-iphone/

The FRED app provides economic data including full access to FRED’s nearly 34,000 economic data series from 37 regional, national, and international sources. Users can select data by the specific data release or simply start out with the 100 most popular data series. They can also create graphs and perform more-sophisticated analysis with the aid of the app’s interactive and customization features.

Additional features allow users to:

• Share their economic data and graphs via email or post them directly to Twitter or Facebook.

• Search for data by keywords or series ID.

• Modify the data range of their graphs or change the graph’s units to percentage change, change from a year ago and other measures.

• Receive the latest information on new data series, updates and St. Louis Fed economic research.

There are plans to develop FRED apps for other devices sometime in the near future. Currently, users of cell phones and other mobile devices can access the St. Louis Fed’s economic data with Mobile FRED at http://m.research.stlouisfed.org/

In addition to FRED, the St. Louis Fed provides ALFRED (Archival Federal Reserve Economic Data), which contains vintage economic data from specific dates in history; GeoFRED (Geographical Economic Data), which allows users to map FRED data at state, MSA, or county levels; FRASER (Federal Reserve Archival System for Economic Research) a library of historic U.S. economic and banking publications; and CASSIDI (Competitive and Analysis Structure Source Instrument for Depository Institutions), the source for analyzing banking competition.
